The Journalism Now Podcast
… is “a new weekly discussion covering multimedia, data and social aspects of modern news.” It’s a partnership between the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications and The Poynter Institute.
Here’s some background on the nine talkers from the Web site, where you can read more about them:
Dave Stanton researches news-consumer behaviors and information processing. He also teaches digital journalism production and transmission at the University of Florida.
Ellyn Angelotti is the Interactivity Editor of Poynter Online and an Adjunct Faculty member.
Mark Hartnett is the the Online Innovations Editor at The Palm Beach Post, where he's worked in various positions, including reporter and computer-assisted reporting specialist, since graduating from UF in 2000.
Since 1993, Steve Outing has been immersed in Internet media and news industry innovation -- as a writer, columnist, editor, author, researcher, blogger, consultant, and entrepreneur.
Stephanie Rosenblatt is a multimedia developer at the Miami Herald. Her job includes everything from creating new front-end designs for special projects to programming graphs, databases and content management systems in Actionscript 3.0 and Ruby on Rails.
Matthew Waite is the News Technologist for the St. Petersburg Times, a loosely defined job that combines a decade of reporting experience with database and programming skills to create new forms of journalism.
Paige West is the Director of Interactive Projects at msnbc.com. She and her team produce interactive features and storytelling formats that are not possible in print or broadcast alone.
Derek Willis is a member of The Times' Interactive News Technology group, a combination of journalists and developers who build data-driven Web applications for nytimes.com.
A longtime newspaper journalist, Steve Yelvington was founding editor of Star Tribune Online (later rebranded startribune.com) in Minneapolis in 1994 and built it into one of the top-ranked newspaper sites in the world.
As a former Florida resident I will have to forgive their severe Florida and UF bias.

If it ever feels like the podcast is turning into a Tim Tebow love fest, I will sing the Cornhusker fight song at the drop of a hat. Loud. It is loaded with Gators, but do not underestimate the fight in the opposition.
I hadn't noticed the Florida bias, but you're right. Well, I live in Colorado (Boulder) and will do my best to tamp down too much Florida talk. 8^) ... Actually, I did work for Poynter for several years, but that was a tele-commute job from Boulder; just visited St. Pete a few times a year.

This week's topic: Is Tim Tebow the greatest athlete ever, or the greatest human ever?
@Matt Waite
Please don't sing. It would only seem sad.
@Steve Outing
If you can just steer the conversation away from sports, I'll consider it a job well done.
@William M Hartnett
Let's return to that after Tebow washes out of the NFL. (And is your real name William or Mark or what?)
Sincerely,
John
My true identity is neither William nor Mark. That's all I'm willing to say at this time.
NFL? Is that some sort of federal agency? Never heard of it.
It takes forever to edit this podcast because of cutting out "Go Gators" after every sentence.
Hopefully having Steve, Paige and guest-o'-the-day Ryan Pitts assuage fears of Florida bias. Thanks for the pub.
